An Islamic regime must be serious in every field," explained Ayatollah Khomeini. "There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humour in Islam. There is no fun in Islam."

That's too bad.God created man in His image after His likeness.Laughter comes naturally to us , like a reflex.Therefore God has a sense of humour.God laughs.Proverbs 17:22 "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones".
I remember the Ayatollah Khomeini days , after the Shah of Iran was ousted.Khomeini was the one who first labeled the USA as "That great Satan".I'll never forget the day I read his statement ,"No more Mr Nice-Guy" ~referring to himself . HAH!
I think the Lord Jesus Christ had a marvelous sense of humor.I keep Him in mind when I'm at work because He dealt with large crowds of the sick all trying to be taken care of next.(I'm an ER nurse in a busy hospital.Sunday we signed in 100 patients between 3PM-12:oo midnight.The previous weekend we had 15 traumas besides multiple critical care issues).I read accounts of Him healing people in a house surrounded by an ever growing crowd pressing to 'get in'.I have no problem visualizing these scenes.People with "withered" limbs or inability to speak(probably from strokes),bleeding issues,blindness,crippling diseases.Others wracked with pain or swollen and short of breath.Babies crying, children whining . Peter sits out in triage and other disciples try to maintain crowd control and answer that nagging question, "How much longer till I get in?".They had no opportunity to eat.Just too busy.He is teaching as well as healing.Jesus touches a man's eyes and his sight is restored.The report buzzes through the growing mass of people standing on their toes,leaning forward straining to see,"What just happened??" ."Old Yahkov can see! Look at his face!".The press of the crowd becomes greater and more stifling.The sun is higher in the sky and the day grows hotter.Here comes Lifeflight on the roof! The crew of four guys lower a man down on a stretcher/bed ,or couch, after breaking open the roof tiles.The man has "palsy", he's paralyzed . Jesus,"And when he saw their faith,he said unto him , Man, thy sins are forgiven thee." Now there's contention added in the air as religious leaders take offence that Jesus has the audacity to make such a statement and claim such authority.
Another time ,similar to this , Jesus is at another house surrounded by a mixed assortment of people .Some were there straining to hear his teaching, others to be healed of various physical or spiritual (demonic)problems,and the ever present scribes & pharisees trying to catch Him in some act or statement as evidence with which they might arrest Him.It adds to stress.The scene is the same as above.Different location.He is teaching the parable of the Sower (Luke 8).Then Mary, the mother of Jesus, arrives with His brethren and wishes to speak with Him.They can't get near and no one will let them through.She is a good Jewish mother and is concerned for her son.She probably had a pot of soup or stew ,bread and a few pickles .She catches the eyes of the "multitude" as she is calling Him. She probably holds up the lunch pail calls out,"I need to talk to Him! He's not eating! This is too much!" "These people are wearing Him out! Where did He sleep last night?",she's thinking.The crowd passes the message to Jesus that His mother and brethren "stand without,desiring to see Thee." And He answered and said unto them ,My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God,and do it." I can just see Philip and Andrew ~"Go tell her what He said." "Huh! I ain't telling her that. You go tell her!"
Over & over Jesus constantly refers to "The scriptures" and says "As it is written" and He chides people for not knowing the scriptures.
So, when it becomes overwhelming at work, I think of the above situations and I'm amused.Jesus remained focused on the job that was there to be done.He saw the whole man~ the physical needs, the emotional need of the soul and the spiritual need that only He and the Word of God could fulfill.
The Bible is filled with words like "merry", "cheerful heart", "rejoice".
James 5:13 "Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry ? Let him sing psalms". I thought about this, why James directs merriness to the psalms and I believe it's to keep us focused on right things.Psalms are songs of praise to God.Paul says in Ephesians 5:19 "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord"

Farming Small

This is my next dream~ to get Draft horse harnessing & hook him up to functional work~ manure skid , plow, maybe a light weight log pull out of my woods.
I have been inspired by another Draft Horseman http://www.ruralheritage.com
The beauty & enjoyment of being a gentleman farmer flees our grasp when we attempt to expand our farming enterprise a little too far.Once we no longer have time to sit on our lawn chair at the chicken house door,
listening to their purrs & twiddles as they settle in to roost for the night, we have exceeded the love of our farm.
Taking something we love and applying it to a full time job places harsh demands and destroys it.Fatigue and resentment creeps in.The initial romanticism we once enjoyed leaks away from it's very joints and heart and it now becomes a burden.
If you have a heart to homestead, do it for yourself & your kinsmen. Maybe a few friends.Don't expand too far beyond your immediate circle.Consider this:
1) Can you get away to attend an important family function? Vacation??
2) Do you enjoy just hanging out with the animal folk, brushing them~ sharing your beer with them?
3)????? I don't know what number 3 is~~ do you?

I know the Amish take offense at having their faces phtotgraphed, so I toook the pictures of the back of their heads instead.
I had a great time at that aucton!Horses, calves, baby goats,chickens & other poultry auctioned off!
If you missed the day, they will have another in the fall. All for the benefit of the Amish School System. Very much worth supporting!

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

I do not think that there are many pictures depicting a more BEAUTIFUL WOMAN than this.(Forget Miss Universe and Miss America.)Here we have a lady who is in touch with life itself.
Together, we investigated cardboard boxes and cages in the Amish Auction this past Saturday. We had to suffer thru the early hours of auctioning off the rusty junk & cardboard cellar boxes of that which no one with any sense would bid on.As the afternoon hours approached, serious auctioneering emerged. We were surrounded by 'Sensoround' voices of Amish auctioneers auctioneering Beautiful Quilts, Horses, antique household items, tools & gadgets. A coal kitchen stove was re-sprayed with silver paint.I could only assume it was covered wit rust prior to the painting.But other areas I loved! The horse auction! The poultry auction! Now, take a look at this lady~~ MY FRIEND!! Have you ever seen a more beautiful woman?? She will set up a chicken house and become an independant poultry person.She will have her own eggs and chicken meat.I LOVE it!! /happychknlady.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327333576321707986" />

Sheep Shearing Time

I had a frustrating time last year trying to find someone who knew how to shear sheep. I was perfecting willing to learn, but needed to be shown. Electric shearers are VERY EXPENSIVE!! Several hundred dollars. The wool on my Cheviots is very dense. A special head for the shearer is a must.Finally by the end of June my poor sheep were panting in misery.They looked like 2 refrigerators walking around .I grabbed my Pampered Chef kitchen scissors and let'er rip!
Fortunately a nomadic gypsy family with many scissored hands happened by! Many styles of sheep dress were designed ! Above is WEDDING DRESS! Note the lovely train at the end!
Here is our handsome Alfalfa, the RAM, being fitted for a new pair of pants. He was absolutely fine & cooperative to be sheared from the neck down, but once his hips were reached, NO ONE was going to proceed any further!.The remainder of the summer he walked about with 'A Pair Of Pants'~sheared from the waist up but the full fleece below the waist and legs!
Here we have SWIMWARE and SHEEP Lingerie. Ewes do not swim well but love to be out in the sun.Her fleece is yellow because of the LANOLIN ( oils) in her coat. VERY good for your hands & expensive to buy.
The little boy in the picture is rubbing his belly. He wonders if he should be sheared? He is really my grandson, they both are.They are Farmer Boys and very good at what they do.They are very strong farmer boys and know how to take care of all the farm animals.They know what to feed the goats but not to feed the same to the sheep.They know what to feed the pigs, the layer chickens and the meat chickens and the horses .

Wonderful Spring!

Fishing season is here at last! Saturday is the first of the season when fishing lines will tangle in the crowded streams~~ I will have NONE of that! C'mon kids! Let's hit the pond!! We have to fish with saltwater poles for the big cats (catfish) because they break the fresh water poles. Here's the kids with a sunny.
Baby lambs are also our delight and are so much fun to watch as they run & leap over the backs of their mamas.It breaks my heart that I have to 'snip' his tail .Too long a tail on a lamb or sheep will cause big time problems later on.

A Well Manured Garden

Springtime! The time of new life emerging . Forsythias announce that warm weather is just around the corner and that we should not despair (even though temps dropped to 24F a few nights ago).It's also the time to plow and appreciate the dark moist soil sending forth its earth scent .I'm glad for sunny warm days to get out there with my tiller so I can drop seed peas ,barefoot ,into their rows.
Now I can appreciate the hard work cleaning the barn , dumping and spreading the horse, sheep and chicken manure into the garden over the past year.The chickens and turkeys also work for a living here scratching and further spreading this wonderful fertilizer into the soil.Every year the soil improves ~ richer and blacker.
In February we had a stretch of mild rainy weather.A fellow contacted me and asked if he could get some chicken manure from my barn. HAH ! "Sure ! Help yourself!", I said. He then asked, "How much do you want for it?" Well, a little birdy told me not to look a gift horse in the mouth (unless he's bony in the hips- that's another story!). I told him it was free and showed him the coops and stalls, etc, where they roost. He arrived with a pickup filled with friends and these fellows had my barn clean as a whistle! ~~~~ Thank You Lord!
Yesterday and today we plowed up sections of the garden to plant cool weather vegetables- peas, spinach, onion sets and a few other things.I hear the weather will be beautiful over the weekend.That's good! Fishing season starts too ! Too many things on my plate competeting for my time!

Henny Penny's Easter Egg

I raise free range chickens,both for eggs and also for meat.My egg layers are a variety of breeds and my favorite are araucanas, otherwise known as 'Easter Egg Chickens'. They lay green, turquoise,pink & brown eggs. "GREEN EGGS AND HAM"~ Dr Seuss must have been inspired by these ladies.Only the shell is so colored.The actual egg is standard.One of this breed outdid herself as you can see by this egg comparison.Somewhere out there is a chicken with a limp.I would expect her to be bottomed out but I don't see any that look amiss ! How can this be?
Can you imagine going into labor every day of your adult life like these gals do? Most farmers cull their chickens once they pass their prime .I say 'no'. They deserve a well earned retirement plan .Let them scratch around in the woods all they want digging for bugs and worms.They'll still lay a few eggs per week .
Below is a carton with a variety of egg from several breeds.Can you recognize the turkey egg ? One is a Banty egg ~ an excellant choice for those who want to control cholesterol intake. It's the tiny one on the left.

Our Awesome,awesome God!!

I'm going to toss a ball of information into your lap .Saturday it was tossed into mine, quite suddenly~ as I opened my email ,there it was. I read , I downloaded and I listened to the speaker on Youtube.Then my jaw dropped ,my eyes got all welled up with tears & I literally started to tremble a little.Not because I was scared, but because I was awestruck! Once again, the greatness of God overwhelmed me.
There is a verse in the Bible that is speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ~ (Colossians 1:17) that states "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together".
Revelation 13:8 Speaks of Jesus as 'the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world". The plan of Redemption for us was set in place BEFORE Adam & Eve fumbled the ball.
When Adam's body was created , it was with the glycoprotein LAMININ~~ a picture of what was to come! The explanation of that is to come a little below.
King David was awestruck with God from the time he was a young shepherd boy.A large percentage of the Psalms were written from his heart.The Bible tells us that he was moved by the Spirit of God when he wrote them. Read Psalm 139. When you get to verse 14 he says,"I will praise thee;for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works;and that my soul knoweth right well."

This article,written below, is from the web site www.truthorfiction.com

Laminin, an Important Protein that Look Like a Cross-Truth!
Summary of the eRumor: The eRumor talks of a substance called "laminin" that is described as part of a family of proteins that "hold us together." Then there is a picture of laminin---which looks like a cross.
The Truth: This story leads into complex considerations of science and biology but the main questions it prompts are whether laminin is as important as the eRumor claims and does it have a shape like a cross.The simple answer to both questions seems to be yes. Laminin is defined by the Webster Medical Dictionary as a "glycoprotein that is a component of connective tissue basement membrane and that promotes cell adhesion." In other words, looking at laminin as a kind of glue isn't far from the truth. There are several different laminins.In their book The Laminins authors Peter Elkblom and Rupert Timpl go into more detail about both the importance of laminins and their structure. They describe laminins that, together with other proteins, "hold cells and tissues together." They also say, "Electron microscopy reveals a cross-like shape for all laminins investigated so far." They went on to say that in solution the laminin shapes were more like a flower than a cross. The strands of laminins do not always stand straight and at right angles, but they do consists of arms, three of which are short and one of which is long.Research has been conducted on laminins in connection with numerous conditions and diseases. It has been found, for example, that people with congenital muscular dystrophies do not have laminin-alpha2, which is normally found in the layer of cells around muscle fibers and other cells important to the structural integrity of muscle cells.Updated 5/14/08
A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:
A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely) on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio...and I was BLOWN AWAY! I want to share what I learned....but I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want. I will share anyway.
He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is...how He spoke the universe into being...how He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire...etc. etc. Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. At this point I am LOVING it (fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know.) .....and I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school as I learned more and more about God's handiwork. I remember so many times thinking...."How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???"
Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart...how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.
And then I lost my breath. And it wasn't because I was running my treadmill, either!!!It was because he started talking about laminin. I knew about laminin. Here is how wikipedia describes them :"Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue." You see....laminins are what hold us together....LITERALLY. They are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell. Without them, we would literally fall apart. And I knew all this already. But what I didn't know is what laminin LOOKED LIKE.
But now I do. And I have thought about it a thousand times since (already)....Here is what the structure of laminin looks like...AND THIS IS NOT a "Christian portrayal" of it....if you look up laminin in any scientific/medical piece of literature, this is what you will see...
Now tell me that our God is not the coolest!!!Amazing.The glue that holds us together....ALL of us....is in the shape of the cross.Immediately Colossians 1:15-17 comes to mind."He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth , visible and invisible,whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;all things were created by him and for him.He is before all things, and in him all things HOLD TOGETHER. "Colossians 1:15-17
Call me crazy. I just think that is very, very, very cool. Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin, Paul penned those words. And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint, we are held together...one cell to another....by the cross.
You would never in a quadrillion years convince me that is anything other than the mark of a Creator who knew EXACTLY what laminin "glue" would look like long before Adam even breathed his first breath!!
Praise the Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama: Islam Has Shaped the U.S.A. HAH!! WHAT ? IS HE NUTS ??

By Robert Spencerhttp://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=19DD14B4-72C3-4425-95FD-268E2A39A205
“We will convey,” said Barack Obama to the Turkish Parliament Monday, “our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world — including in my own country.”
Undeniably the Islamic faith ha s done a great deal to shape the world – a statement that makes no value judgment about exactly how it has shaped the world. It has formed the dominant culture in what is known as the Islamic world for centuries. But what on earth could Obama mean when he says that Islam has also “done so much” to shape his own country?
Unless he considers himself an Indonesian, Obama’s statement was extraordinarily strange. After all, how has the Islamic faith shaped the United States? Were there Muslims along Paul Revere’s ride, or standing next to Patrick Henry when he proclaimed, “Give me liberty or give me death”? Were there Muslims among the framers or signers of the Declaration of Independence, which states that all men – not just Muslims, as Islamic law would have it – are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Were there Muslims among those who drafted the Constitution and vigorously debated its provisions, or among those who enumerated the Bill of Rights, which guarantees – again in contradiction to the tenets of Islamic law – that there should be no established national religion, and that the freedom of speech should not be infringed?
There were not.
Did Muslims play a role in the great struggle over slavery that defined so much of our contemporary understandings of the nature of this republic and of the rights of the individual within it? They did not. Did the Islamic faith shape the way the United States responded to the titanic challenges of the two World Wars, the Great Depression, or the Cold War? It did not. Did the Islamic faith, with its legal apparatus that institutionalizes discrimination against non-Muslims, shape the civil rights movement in the United States? The Civil Rights Act of 1964 mandated equality of access to public facilities – a hard-won victory that came at a great cost, and one that Muslim groups have tried to roll back in the United States recently. One notable example of such attempts was the alcohol-in-cabs controversy at the Minneapolis-St. Paul international airport, when Muslim cabdrivers began to refuse service to customers who were carrying alcohol, on Islamic religious grounds. The core assumption underlying this initiative – that discrimination on the basis of religion is justified – cut right to the heart of the core principle of the American polity, that “all men are created equal,” that is, that they have a right to equal treatment in law and society.
Surveying the whole tapestry of American history, one would be hard-pressed to find any significant20way in which the Islamic faith has shaped the United States in terms of its governing principles and the nature of American society. Meanwhile, there are numerous ways in which, if there had been a significant Muslim presence in the country at the time, some of the most cherished and important principles of American society and law may have met fierce resistance, and may never have seen the light of day.
So in what way has the Islamic faith shaped Obama’s country? The most significant event connected to the Islamic faith that has shaped the character of the United States was the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Those attacks have shaped the nation in numerous ways: they’ve led to numerous innovations in airline security, which in generations to come – if today’s politically correct climate continues to befog minds -- may be added to future versions of the fanciful “1001 Muslim Inventions” exhibition. The Islamic faith has shaped the U.S. since 9/11 in leading to the spending of billions on anti-terror measures, and to the ventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to Guantanamo, and to so many features of the modern political and social landscape that they cannot be enumerated20within the space of a single article.
Of course, it is certain that Obama had none of that in mind. But what could he possibly have had in mind? His statement was either careless or ignorant, or both – not qualities we need in a Commander-in-Chief even in the best of times.

THE SET OF THE SAIL

SAIL, DON'T DRIFT

I find the greatest thing in this world not so much where we stand,
as in what direction we are moving.To reach the port of heaven,we must
sail sometimes with the wind, and sometimes against it,but we sail, and not drift,
nor live at anchor.
~~~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
GOOD FRIDAY
Find The Turkey
HELLO-o-o-o-o I see you in there , in your kitchen washing dishes! It's time for breakfast & I want my grain !! My turkey hen flies up on the garage roof outside my kitchen window & clucks until I cry 'uncle' & feed the barnyard flock. Did you find her with ease??
The Dept. of Agriculture wants to track the whereabouts of every baby chick & poultry peep.WHY ?? With the pretense of AVIAN FLU !!
Every spring homesteaders, farms & gentlemen farmers, like our household, pickup a flat of baby chicks.Chicks that are destined to be egg layers & others meant for meat.This year my commrades in several states have had to fill out detailed forms identifying the whereabouts & use of these peeps. The Dept of Agriculture would have you believe that animal/poultry identification is a good thing to track down the spread of disease.They have particulary spread Avian Flu anxiety without just cause. The Gov't refuses to track down illegal immigrants and drug traffick~ including drug traffick within state & federal prison systems! BUT~~~ IT IS GOING TO TRACK THE WHEREABOUTS OF YOUR CHICKEN!!! I am not dumb. FOLLOW THE MONEY~ Big coorporations that have interests in destroying the competition of organic & pastured farming & livestock are suspect in my book.
Here's a project for you college students~~ Google & then follow links to MONSANTO's destruction of small farmers, especially organic farmers.( check out suicides of farmers in INDIA !! There are 6,000 !! )Who is Monsanto? A chemical company . The hybrid seed producer of the USA. And then some.CHECK IT OUT!!
I have 2 dogs that I bought from animal rescues. They both were injected with tracking devices before I received them. We are just a breath away from Revelation 13.
Salesman of the Year
I've been told ammo & blackpowder for reloads ,in the state of Florida, is on backorder with a long waiting list.I don't know about stores in the state of Pennsylvania but I'll soon find out as turkey season approaches.Why? Just because people are buying it up and stock piling.I wondered why ? Then the NRA enlightened me.
Fractured Bakery Tales
STEP #1 : Never bake anything when others are around.You may lose poise.Follow cake mix directions and bake. STEP #2: As for non-stick cookware~ phooey! You should always use your gut instinct and grease away!
STEP #3: Always capitalize on your mistakes ! NEVER admit to a disaster! Dump an entire can of lemon pie filling over the bottom layer. Smear it well across the its top. Fill in every crack and tumbling section. It will hold everything together like mortar. It will save you from being MORTARFIED LATER! ~HAH !!
STEP #4: Dump an entire can of frosting over the top & sides of the cake.Smooth it off ever so pretty & drizzle colorful sprinkles . Clean up kitchen crumbs and all evidence of disaster.
STEP #5: WALLAH ! Light candles and sing !
Is it possible that he's 20 yrs old already ? My , my ~ how the time flies~~
It seems like only yesterday that we were swimming together at Willow Valley and floated too close to the deep end of the pool.He was 11 mos old and I was trying frantically to hold his little face above water! I couldn't touch bottom and had to swim with one arm & hold him with the other.I couldn't keep my own head above water! I suddenly felt the dread of drowning and realized it was him or me! ~~~~~ As I swam away , I never dreamed he'd reach his 20th birthday! Yet here he is , evidence that you must let children help themselves ! Don't do everything for them ! It will damage them !
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDDIE ! I'M REALLY GLAD YOU MADE IT ! ~~Love Mom
Tea Bag Party
Once again Americans are protesting the government's taxation plan with tea.Disgruntled taxpayers started mailing a teabag in an envelope to President Obama and addressed to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C. The plan is to have them all arrive by April 15th.The D.C.postal system has girded their loins to accept the onslaught.If the President accepts his mail, he'll be able to sip tea with other like minded politicians while discussing his ideas for "A NEW WORLD ORDER". Very disturbing dialogue .
Other disturbing hits from the outhouse upper level :
LARD
We've been duped!! All these years we could have been happy!! Now we're finding out that margarine ,Crisco,and other shortenings we used to make pie crust were the REAL KILLERS!!
I have always made my own pie crust.I used margarine most of the time. The edges always burned during the baking process,even if I used Crisco.Then I moved up here amongst the mountain people. "Want lard?" the corner market owner said when he raised & butchered my first pig for me. "Lard?? ~NOOO!!! What would I want lard for?" EVERYBODY UP HERE EATS LARD !! THE OLD TIMERS SWEAR BY LARD AND WON'T NEVER MAKE PIE CRUST ANY OTHER WAY ! " I was curious, so I said, "SURE !! Toss in a can 'a lard !"Some time went by and I ignored the can of lard sitting on the cold garage floor in the shiny metal can.It was pure white and solid & I had no recipe for pie crust made with lard.So, there it sat.Then I heard a rumor that lard was better than shortenings. So, I searched for a recipe, found one and made an apple pie. OH MY STARS !! I HAVE EATEN THE BEST APPLE PIE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!! Not a single burnt edge, and the flakiness merited a county fair blue ribbon!
Now, what's the story behind lard? http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/lard-the-new-health-food Check this site out!
http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-render-lard.html and this one~ HOW TO RENDER LARD!!
CHICKENHOOD
You've heard of Robinhood? Now I'll tell you about Chickenhood and his band of merry hens!
We recently spent a LOT of $$money on fencing to keep chickens and turkeys confined to the yard, and a very generous portion we gave them indeed! You've heard the saying from Erma Bombeck, "The grass grows greener over the septic tank" ? Well, that's true and so we fenced in that area since we can't plant anything with any depth or have the weight of a tractor upon it.
At night, after roosting had been well established, I went about the barn & different roosting spots (on trailers,doorways,cages,straw bales, storage bins, woodpile, etc., and slipped my hands beneath their soft belly feathers , grabbed them about the ankles and flipped them upside down~best way to catch a chicken ! Nightime is a must! After the initial squawking and wild flapping of wings had subsided, I carried them to the fenced in 10 x 14' poultry shed and set them free to roost on one of 6 posts. Only the highest post would work for them .They crowd together and leave the other 4 posts bare.
Every night for a week now, this same little group of chickens, with their master rooster"Chickenhood" ,slip out of there & return to their original sleeping quarters.They are a stubborn lot and refuse address change ! Their idea of 'fun' is to stand in the middle of the street and stop traffic,cross the street to the woods and scratch for bugs and lay eggs next to the possum hole.HELLO !! Dumb idea!
The remainder of the chicken & turkey population spend the entire daylight hours frantically running up & down the perimeter of the new fence reciting the ADVERB JINGLE~ "Over,under,around,below,up,down,through...".. etc.They have not yet succeeded in finding an escape route.
I always wondered what the heck was the farmers' preoccupation with fences! Now I know.Livestock have 24/7 to dwell on and plan escape routes.
